While motorboats and pedalo's are operating, you can paddle anywhere north of the pier, the bowl at the north end of the lake is reserved for water ski boats, if they are operating, please depart the bowl for your safety.

"Can I put a speed boat on the lake"?

Unfortunately we do not allow any motorised boats on the lake.

"Can I swim on the lake"?

Unfortunately due to the amount of boats operating on the lake, swimming is prohibited.

"Where can I get a yearly licence"?

You can apply for a season licence for paddle boarding or kayaking from SUP North (check the lake clubs page) and sailing licences are issued by Southport Watersports after you have joined one of the sailing clubs.

All lake users must have the relevant licence
- Regular licence checks will be carried out on the water
- Users must give their details when asked by Southport Watersports staff
-A list of names of licence-holders is kept by Southport Watersports and SUP North
- Anyone found sailing or paddling without the correct licence will be banned from the lake

-Any aggressive or confrontational behaviour will result in a ban.

Areas of Use
-The main body of the lake between the pier to the south and the breakwater to the north can be
used at any time. Note the Southport Jet Boat and cruise
boats use this area – keep clear of these boats.
-The area to the south of the pier is reserved for Southport Watersports’ hire motor boats and pedalos during the daytime in Spring/Summer and early Autumn.

-Normal hours of operation are generally 11am to 6.30pm but any time hire boats are on the water, paddlers must not pass south of the pier. This is for everyone’s safety.
-The area to the north of the breakwater is reserved for water ski boats. If accessing the lake from this end when water ski boats are on the water, please make your way immediately out of the area past
the breakwater, keeping clear of boats.

Other guidelines
-A leash should always be worn when paddle boarding – this ensures your board stays close to you if you fall off, and avoids causing a danger to others.
-Children should always be accompanied by an adult on the water. Ensure conditions are suitable for their level
of paddling, and that they give way to other lake users.
-When sailing boats are on the water, be observant, give way and avoid paddling through a race
course whenever possible.

Please keep the lake safe and fun for all to use
